As part of the United World Week Celebration and its’ #DareToCare campaign, the Youth for a United World of the City of Mati, Davao Oriental initated a Coastal Clean-up Drive along Dahican Beach Line of the city. The activity was participated by 45 young people including the Seminarians of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Seminary – Diocese of Mati, Diocesan Youth Apostolate (DYA) from the three parishes of the Diocese of Mati (Cathedral, Divine Mercy, and Don Bosco), and other youth members in the community. The activity started with a program in the morning where YFUW was introduced – what it is all about, how it started, what unites them, how they work, and what they are doing all over the world. YFUW members also shared their previous experiences on their participations of the YFUW projects and activities. To conclude the morning program, the YFUW presented the #DareToCare pathway campaign and its three steps. They also showed the video on the Pathways for a United World which led to group sharing wherein participants answered the question: “How can you be an instrument of a #DareToCare in your family, school, parish, workplace, and community?”
At 1pm, the youth went to Dahican Beach Line for the coastal clean-up for two hours. The day concluded with sharing of impressions. Most of them were saying that it’s their first time to experience such kind of program and they never expected it. They thought that they will just be picking plastics but, according to them, they were able to understand more the meaning of what they’re doing. One of them said “I already experienced doing activities like this but it is only today that I felt, with this simple act, it seems that I contributed a lot to building a united world”.
